Every classroom on this K-8 campus has adopted an institution of higher education; the school expects every student to attend college. Every teacher is required to decorate with geegaws and doodads and tchtochkes and posters and pictures and banners and anything else that says MY SCHOOL from their assigned college/university.

We all know how little extra time and funds teachers have to dedicate to this kind of an endeavor. That's where we come in.

Wall decor is a priority (photos from your last issue of the alumni magazine, postcards, calendars, banners, ticket stubs, eg) but the teachers are also looking for prizes to give away to honor achievement. Lanyards, decals, t-shirts, pens, notebooks, sweats..... whatever you think a middle school kid would enjoy.

Each middle school classroom also has a Special Student Desk.  It's a teacher's desk with a padded chair and it sits in the center of the other student desks.  Students are rewarded with a week of residence at the desk for achievement, attitude, accomplishments - whatever the teacher chooses to recognize.

Right now those desks are pretty barren. I'm thinking blotters, pencil holders (and pens and pencils with the school logo), note pads, a clip board..... look at your own desk and see what would be appropriate. As long as it has the college logo or name we will make it work.

You can send your donations directly to the school (If you follow the addressing instructions you can be sure your treasures will end up in the right place)or send them directly to GRIN @ 7835 N Como Dr, Tucson AZ 85742.

Please put a note in the box with your name and contact informationGRIN will send you a tax receipt and the teachers will send you a thank you note.

If you'd like to enter into a more permanent relationship with your alma mater's namesake classroom just let the teacher know in your note. You can really make a difference here.

Thanks for plowing through this wall of text.   It's the first step in your good deed!

I want to let you know what a hit the Cornell blanket has been in my classroom. It sits on the corner of the special student desk and is used by almost every student who is honored this week with that seat. Many wear it around their shoulders in our chilly classroom, and some just cuddle the wad in their lap while they do their homework. I would have never guessed it would go to such immediate, special use.
THANK YOU!
